Stoked for Stoker!

Here at Dark of the Matinee it’s safe to say we’re all fans of the film Oldboy directed by Chan-wook Park. It’s an incredible revenge story filled with tons of great action and teeth-clinching gore. Park is back in action with his first English language film Stoker. The trailer is out and after watching it, I think it’s safe to say I’m excited about it it!

After looking at IMDB I found that Stoker is about an 18 year old girl named India Stoker and her relationship with her newly found uncle. He comes to live with her and her unstable mother after her father dies. Her uncle is mysterious and charming and India becomes infatuated with him.

This film boasts some great talent in the always amazing Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowski who you might know as Alice from Tim Burton’s version of Alice in Wonderland. Based on the trailer this film looks creepy and intense. It seems like the plot is thick with twists and disturbing ideas and imagery to match. If Stoker has any of the intensity of Oldboy, it’s bound to be both visually and viscerally interesting.

Stoker is set for a limited release in the U.S. in March 2013 and I’ll be on the look out to catch it in theaters. Check out the trailer below! …oh and if you haven’t seen Oldboy…get on that.
