"Trick 'r Treat" vs "Mr. Hush" DVD Art

I was at a Red Box kiosk just a little bit ago scanning through the current horror titles they have in stock. Mostly you'll just find a ton of bad, straight-to-DVD movies there, but occasionally you'll find a gem. One of the films that caught my eye on this lovely evening was a film called Mr. Hush.

Now I've never seen Mr. Hush nor have I heard of it. I have no idea what it's about. The DVD artwork, however, was something I'm very familiar with. Here's what their DVD art looks like...

Ring a bell? Of course it does, right? Definitely something you've seen before. In case you're not quite sure where, let me refresh your memory...

Basically identical.

Mr. Hush is a film from 2010 that just received it's DVD release about two months ago. It's distributed by Horizon Movies. Trick 'r Treat, the film whose art work appears to have "inspired" Mr. Hush, is from 2007 but was put on the shelf for a few years before getting a straight-to-DVD and Blu-ray release in 2009.

Now I know we see a lot of DVD art work and posters and such that are similar, but typically they're not exactly the same. Come on people, we can do better. We can do better.

  1. Just because 2 different movies look the same on the cover doesn't mean theft. Soon enough you guys are gonna start suing spoof movies...

    1. Is Mr. Hush a spoof of Trick R Treat? Perhaps. I have not seen it, and I said as much. You may have missed that part. If it were a spoof, and again I have not seen the movie nor have I seen anywhere saying it is a spoof, then the cover look this similar would make sense. However, with a spoof there's humor involved. So the artwork would look incredibly similar but with a funny twist.

Nothing about the artwork of Mr. Hush leads you to believe it is a comedy. Nothing leads you to believe it is a spoof. Everything about the artwork to Mr. Hush leads you to believe it's a 100% rip off of the Trick R Treat artwork.
