Overlooked Horror Films - Day 10 - A Bucket of Blood (1959)

Every day in October we will be highlighting one of our favorite overlooked horror films as a way to countdown to glorious Halloween. We are hoping to bring some attention to films that rarely get on horror lists during this time of year. We hope you enjoy!

A Bucket of Blood (1959)

What’s it about: Walter Paisley, a wannabe artist working as a bus boy at the local beatnik coffee shop is dying to be accepted into the art community. After accidentally killing his landlord's cat, Walter covers it in plaster and is praised for creating a realist statue. Walter's desire for more praise leads to a deadly series of new art.

Why is it overlooked: In general I feel as if Roger Corman is overlooked. Sure, people talk about him but he's mostly written off as a low budget, schlock director/producer. A Bucket of Blood, having been made in a handful of days, is often tossed aside. Even star Dick Miller thinks the film is lacking because the budget was too small.

Why is it worth a look: Small budget be damned, A Bucket of Blood is in my eyes Corman's best work. This is a funny, dark satire that is as relevant today as it was back in the 50's. Dick Miller is absolutely superb as Walter Paisley, creating a truly iconic character.
