Overlooked Horror Films - Day 18 - Street Trash (1987)

Every day in October we will be highlighting one of our favorite overlooked horror films as a way to countdown to glorious Halloween. We are hoping to bring some attention to films that rarely get on horror lists during this time of year. We hope you enjoy!

Street Trash (1987)

What’s it about: A shady liquor store owner finds a crate of Viper in his basement and starts selling it to the homeless drunks in the city. Viper turns out to melt the person who consumes it.
Why is it overlooked: Its a very low budget film with tons of gross out moments so my only guess is that this only appealed to fans of Troma type films and so very few people saw it.
Why is it worth a look: Well first off the initial melting sequence is awesome and weirdly psychedelic. The gore effects throughout the film are amazing. Secondly you learn a ton about being a homeless drunk, like adding your own pee to your hooch to make it last longer. Finally, homeless people scare a lot of people in real life and this is one of the few films that explores that, albeit in a fun and humorously trashy way.
