Every day in October we will be highlighting one of our favorite overlooked horror films as a way to countdown to glorious Halloween. We are hoping to bring some attention to films that rarely get on horror lists during this time of year. We hope you enjoy!
Memory of the Dead (2011)
What’s it about: When her husband suddenly dies, Alicia gathers all his friends at a country manor to read his final letter. What the friends don't know is that Alicia plans to bring her husband back from the dead and in order to do so the friends must die.
Why is it overlooked: My only guess is that since this film is from Argentina, it never really caught on in the states. Which is a real shame.
Why is it worth a look: Memory of the Dead feels like an 80's horror flick. It's very gory with some great use of practically effects and does have some genuinely scary moments. Mixed in between the gore and scares is a nice dose of dark comedy. It certainly never reaches the level of Sam Raimi but it definitely feels Iike a product of Raimi's influence.
