Overlooked Horror Films - Day 29 - The Skin I Live In (2011)

Every day in October we will be highlighting one of our favorite overlooked horror films as a way to countdown to glorious Halloween. We are hoping to bring some attention to films that rarely get on horror lists during this time of year. We hope you enjoy!

The Skin I Live In (2011)

What’s it about: A brilliant surgeon, haunted by past tragedies, creates a synthetic skin that withstands any type of damage. His guinea pig: a mysterious and volatile woman who holds the key to his obsession.

Why is it overlooked: This may be another example of foreign movies just not catching on in the states, however, both the film's star Antonio Banderas and director Pedro Almodovar have quite the following. I think The Skin I Live In is more of an example of a film that is overlooked as a horror film because on the surface it may not appear to be so.

Why is it worth a look: The Skin I Live In is one of the best modern examples of the mad doctor movie. Banderas is absolutely terrific and terrifying as the doctor driven mad by the horrible tragedies he and his family have suffered over the years. This is a creepy, disturbing and chilling film oozing in style.
