Overlooked Horror Films - Day 30 - Psycho II (1983)

Every day in October we will be highlighting one of our favorite overlooked horror films as a way to countdown to glorious Halloween. We are hoping to bring some attention to films that rarely get on horror lists during this time of year. We hope you enjoy!

Psycho II (1983)

What’s it about:
Norman Bates is released after 22 years of psychiatric care. He begins a new life, trying to return to quiet solitude. Soon visions of his mother begin to haunt Norman, threatening his new life. Will Norman return to his old ways?

Why is it overlooked: It's the sequel to arguably the most important film in the horror genre. I think most people are scared to even give it a chance. The very idea of a sequel to Psycho makes some cringe.

Why is it worth a look: It's arguable one of the best sequels ever made. The film never tries to top the original classic. Instead, it uses the first film brilliantly to create a story about reformation and redemption. The central focus on Norman and whether or not he is truly ready to be out in the world offers up so many great scenes where we are never really sure what's real. Anthony Perkins gives a great performance and the film is loads of fun. Give it a chance before writing it off.
