Overlooked Horror Films - Day 2 - The Hole (2009)

Every day in October we will be highlighting one of our favorite overlooked horror films as a way to countdown to glorious Halloween. We are hoping to bring some attention to films that rarely get on horror lists during this time of year. We hope you enjoy!

The Hole (2009)

What’s it about: Two brothers discover a strange hole in their basement. After investigating the hole they discover it's a portal that unleashes their darkest fears and nightmares.

Why is it overlooked: The film never received a proper release. Why that is, I'm not sure. Joe Dante is always sort of overlooked.

Why is it worth a look: Joe Dante, it's as simple as that. Being a cinephile, Dante respects the sense of wonder and fascination of the movies. While The Hole doesn't reach the same levels of something like The Explores, it's still quite charming and has it's hear in the right place. The kids are quite likable and the movie does have some moments that are genuinely frightening, a scene with a you clown is especially creepy. Plus Dante regulars Bruce Dern and Dick Miller join in on the fun.
