Every day in October we will be highlighting one of our favorite overlooked horror films as a way to countdown to glorious Halloween. We are hoping to bring some attention to films that rarely get on horror lists during this time of year. We hope you enjoy!
Kiss of the Damned (2012)
What’s it about: Vampire Djuna resists the advances of mortal Paolo, but soon gives into her passion. When her trouble making sister unexpectedly comes to visit, Djuna's love is threatened and the whole vampire community becomes endangered.
Why is it overlooked: Kiss of the Damned made less than $15,000 at the US box office. I'm sure this was mostly due to the fact that it didn't really play anywhere. This is one of those movies that plays at a few festivals and then just sort of disappears. My guess is that this movie is too sexual for modern mainstream audiences.
Why is it worth a look: Kiss of the Damned is just a cool movie. It's slick, hip and oozing in style. It doesn't waste anytime getting into it either. As soon as Djunga and Paolo meet she basically says, "I'm a vampire," and Paolo says, "cool, make me one too." Director Xan Cassavetes trust that her audience is on board and runs with it. This is a vampire movie that would make Jean Rollin proud.
