The 12th annual Phoenix Film Festival shows just how far one can go by setting up an online fundraising campaign as Folklore hits the valley as one of the International Horror & Sci-Fi Film Festival sci-fi feature films this year.
Folklore is a new sci-fi/comedy from writer/director Justin Calen Chenn. The entire budget, at least according to IMDB, was raised entirely through the crowd funding website, Kickstarter.
The film takes place over one day in which a bunch of your favorite mythical creatures including a vampire, a time traveler and some aliens are interviewed by a fictional government agency. Judging from what I've read on the film and seen in the trailer, I'm assuming this is done just so the governement can keep tabs on these mythical beings. You know how the governement is.
I really dig the concept of the film. It's a clever idea that a lot of fun could be had with. I for one and am excited to see how it was executed.
And Kudos to Chenn for being able to raise the money via Kickstarter. That is no easy feat. Accomplishing such shows the director had a lot of passion for the project and truly believes in it. Often times, that bodes well.
