Pillow Fight is a new web series from writer, co-director and actor, Gordon Clark. The series is an anthology of sorts. Each episode features two people in a room having a conversation after sex.
"Pillow Fight was a concept built for speed," says Clark. "We wanted to get something on camera, rapid-like, wanted to showcase our respective talents; me for writing dialogue and penning a scene, my co-director and DP for his behind camera strength, our actors in their multi-layered approach to character and my firm belief that each of them can carry a film in each of their own respects"
The idea started as a showcase to show off the local talent from Arizona. Recently it has started to evolve as Clark is interested in seeing what other filmmakers throughout the country would do with the same concept.
"What voice they have for it, if you will. We already have a place to stage it...so they can add their videos and then we can create a sort of global discussion on the subject of intimate language."
The budget is basically nothing and the crew is super thin, consisting of basically just Clark and Joseph Lao. Lao shares directing duties with Clark and shoots and cuts the episodes. Most episodes are shot straight through in under four hours because as Clark says, "Joe’s incredibly economical like that."
So far Pillow Fight is two episodes in, with a third coming tomorrow (Tuesday, February 28th). The episodes are all similar, but uniquely different. Each episode is the same scenario, but the conversations all go down such different paths. Almost reminiscent of the old show, Undressed (or at least how I remember Undressed being in my head).
The newest episode, "Confession," is my favorite thus far. Maryam Cné delivers a powerful performance, wrought with emotion. She steals the show. Clark wasn't lying when he said each one of his actors could carry a scene. There's no better example than Cné.
Pillow Fight should become part of your Tuesday routine. It's about ten minutes each week and brings you some of the best acting talent currently in Arizona. Give it a try. I think you'll like what you see.
Visit the official Pillow Fight website for more info and all episodes. Enjoy the teaser trailer below.
