Top 5 "Nature Fights Back" Films

Man vs. Nature. We learned about this theme in English class. These films all deal with the theme in horrifying ways. I used some criteria for this list. No films where man tampers with science to create a perversion of nature were allowed. This left out some greats like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Little Shop of Horrors, and Piranha. With that in mind I give you the top 5 "nature fights back" films.

5) Creepshow -
Maybe this is a cheat but the segment "They're Creeping Up On You" gives me the creeps.  A ruthless business man locks lives in a hermetically sealed apartment that using electronic locks. When a blackout happens his apartment is infested with cockroaches.

4) Arachnophobia -

I will admit right now that I don't like spiders. Not only does this movie succeed in providing some scares, it is also pretty damn funny. John Goodman really steals the show as an exterminator.

3) The Birds -

The Hitchcock classic still works to create an eerie, tense mood. While the effects aren't the best, the film still succeeds in a nightmarish view of what would happen if our feathered friends took revenge.

2) The Long Weekend -

A film nearly forgotten about but one that deserves more attention. This Australian film from the 70's shows nature at it's most dangerous. The film follows a young couple going camping. The couple are horrible people and we see that nature doesn't care for them either. What an ending!

1) Jaws -

The godfather of all man vs. nature films. Spielberg never tops this one in my book. The acting is fantastic, the story thrilling, and the shark, well Spielberg is talented enough to make us scared of a "great white turd."
