Where Have All the Good Bad Movies Gone?

The world needs more Tommy Wiseaus

While waiting for a friend at a bar Friday night I started reading this insightful and interesting article that Roger Ebert tweeted. The article is from BBC News and disguises itself as an article about the Razzies vs the Oscars. However there is a far more interesting point being made. Where have all the good bad movies gone? The article quotes John Wilson, founder of the Razzies as saying "The saddest thing is that over the 32 years that we've been doing the Razzies, original bad, like original good, has just fallen by the wayside."

I for one am tempted to agree with him. Part of the reason our podcast watches so many films from the 80's is that good bad movies thrived then. We love these types of films. They give you a chance to think about how to make it better and laugh at earnest mistakes within them. To see Adam Sandler get nominated for a Razzie every year is boring.
I have a theory about all this but have yet to test it. Maybe all the good bad movies are going straight to DVD and we just miss tons of them. Think about the rise of cult films such as The Room and Birdemic. These films found life on DVD. How many other gems are waiting to be found?
