DVD Review: Operation Payback - 8 Movie Collection

New from Mill Creek is Operation Payback - 8 Movie Collection. This DVD set gives us 8 actions movies featuring some of our favorites here at Dark of the Matinee including Jeff Bridges, Keifer Sutherland, Vincent Gallo, Dolph Lundgren and a whole lot more!

For me, thess 8 pack releases from Mill Creek have always been a ton of fun, offering you a whole lot of bang for your buck. While I haven't had the opportunity to make it through this entire set yet, I've greatly enjoyed what I've seen. As per usual for these sets, the 8 movies come on 2 discs and are of excellent quality. For $9.98 you surely can't go wrong!

Here's what I've seen so far....

The Russian Specialist (AKA The Mechanik) - 2005 - Dir. Dolph Lundgren - Starring: Dolph Ludgren, Ben Cross

As of right now, The Russian Specialist may just be my favorite movie in the set. This is the second movie I've seen directed by and starring Lundgren and like the first it did not disappoint. In a Bronson-eqsue like role (perhaps why the original title was The Mechanik), Lundgren plays a a Russian Special Ops vet who is now trying to live a peaceful life with his wife and child. After his wife and child are killed by Russian mobsters, Lundgren seeks revenge! And boy does he get it! Lundgren has to kill at least 20 people in this one. A lot of fun, definitely check it out.

Truth or Consequences, N.M. - 1997 - Dir. Kiefer Sutherland - Starring: Kiefer Sutherland, Vincent Gallo, Kevin Pollack, Martin Sheen

While not a perfect film, this directorial debut from Kiefer Sutherland offers up a ton of fun. Four criminals setup a simple drug deal, but of course it goes wrong and they're forced to hit the road. Bloody madness ensues! Yes, we've seen the heist go wrong bit before, but that doesn't make it any less fun. Sutherland does a terrific job in a film that will keep you entertained from start to finish.

The other six films included on the set I've yet to get to but am eager to check out. They are...

Knock Off - 1998 - Dir. Hark Tsui - Starring: Jean-Claude Van Damme, Rob Schneider, Paul Sorvino

With Van Damme and Schneider, I need not say more, but I will. In Knock Off, Van Damme stars as a fashion designer that teams up with a CIA agent to fight terrorism. The tag line is, "there is no substitute." Sign me up. I'll in for this one!

The Hunt for Eagle One: Crash Point - 2006 - Dir. Henry Crum - Starring: Mark Dacascos, Thersea Randle, Jeff Fahey

In this sequel a US Strike Force team must venture into rebel territory to recover a stolen Encoder and prevent terrorists from enganging in an all-out war. Action movies involving strike force teams are usually fun. I anticipate this one to be no different.

Second in Command - 2006 - Dir. Simon Fellows - Starring: Jean-Claude Van Damme

Jean-Claude Van Damme makes his second appearance on the Operation Payback collection in Second in Command from Simon Fellows, the director of Malice in Wonderland. Van Damme leads a team of US marines in battle against attackers at a US Embassy in a smaller Eastern European Nation. Van Damme playing an American is always fun!

Scenes of the Crime - 2001 - Dir. Dominique Forma - Starring: Jeff Bridges, Jon Abrahams

The Dude himself plays an LA mobster in Scenes of the Crime. Like most mobsters, he's at war with a fellow mobster and a young guy just trying to make some cash gets stuck in the middle.

Conspiracy - 2008 - Dir. Adam Marcus - Starring: Val Kilmer

The director of Jason Goes to Hell directs Val Kilmer as a Special Ops marine in Conspiracy. After being hurt in the war, Kilmer decides to visit an old friend, but once he arrives he learns his friend is missing and no one will admit to ever knowing him.

The Point Men - 2001 - Dir. John Glen - Starring: Christopher Lambert, Kerry Fox

John Glen, the man who currently holds the record for most James Bond movies directed, calls the shots in The Point Men. Christopher Lambert stars as the leader of a team of Israeli agents looking to capture a Palestinian terrorist.

8 action movies for $9.98. I've seen two so far and I'd easily pay $10 plus for each of them, so to get 6 additional for such a cheap price you can't go wrong. One again Mill Creek delivers the goods! Visit Mill Creek online to buy your copy today!
