Review: Bad Milo

You will know by the plot description of Bad Milo if its a film for you or not. Ken Marino plays Ken, a stressed out accountant who has a butt monsters. Yes that's right, a butt monster. If scatological humor is your thing, Bad Milo delivers the laughs consistently.

The movie jumps into it's story very quickly. Ken gets dumped on at work and by his family. In an act of defense, his body creates Milo. Milo escapes from Ken's ass and kills those who treat Ken wrongly. The film rides a line between horror humor and gross out humor. Wisely, it trusts its crazy plot and gives some shinning moments to some character actors. Patrick Warburton and Peter Stormare shine in their brief, zany roles.

As the movie goes along, Ken wants to stop Milo from killing everyone he knows. His psychiatrist urges him to bond with Milo, creating some very fun scenes. Milo is a wonderful puppet creation. No CGI is used giving the film ties to Basket Case and some other solid 80's horror films.

On paper, I realize Bad Milo sounds juvenile and silly, and it is but it also manages to be truly funny. This is due to the fine cast and the film's treatment of its characters. While the situation may be exaggerated, the characters feel rounded out and complex. Bad Milo succeeds in elevating a dumb premise through skillful filmmaking.
