Review: Nurse 3D

Nurse 3D is the type of silly, stylish throwaway piece of exploitation that 3D was made for. It's too bad Nurse 3D isn't fully successful in being as fun as it could have been. However the film does have some good moments both of humor and of gore.

Abby (Paz De la Huerta) is a nurse by day and a seductive killer by night, targeting unfaithful men. Enter Danni (Katrina Bowden), the new nurse under Abby's wing. Danni has a few rough patches, from freezing up on her first blood-drenched patient to being subjected to verbal abuse and sexual advances from the hospital's scumbag excuse for a resident surgeon (Judd Nelson). Things only get worse when Abby develops an unhealthy attachment to Danni, obsessing over her Single White Female style. Despite a drunken fling, Danni refuses Abby, realizing she's a crazy bitch. However that's when Abby goes from sabotaging Danni's relationship with her ambulance driver boyfriend (Corbin Bleu) to making a project out of Danni's cheating stepfather (Martin Donovan).

There is an interesting story here about a woman sick of being treated poorly and sexually harassed who becomes a killer of men who cheat on their wives and use women. The film sadly chooses to focus on the lesbian obsession side of things resulting in familiar territory.

The film wants to be fun trash. It promises lots of sex, nudity and violence. Casting De la Huerta seems like the right choice, she can play crazy in her sleep. The film just never delivers enough on these promises. The finale is kicks things up but it comes too late.
