Every day in October we will be highlighting one of our favorite overlooked horror films as a way to countdown to glorious Halloween. We are hoping to bring some attention to films that rarely get on horror lists during this time of year. We hope you enjoy!
King of the Zombies (1941)
What’s it about: Three travelers become stranded on a creepy island where they find an evil doctor working with spies and controlling zombies.
Why is it overlooked: A horror/comedy from the 1940's just doesn't seen to go over well with modern audiences.
Why is it worth a look: I'm really a sucker for these types of old timey horror/comedy hybrids. What I really appreciate about movies like this is that they are funny but they take the horror aspect serious. The film was released before the US entered World War II and takes a shot at Nazi Germany. In fact this may be the first ever portrayal of "nazi zombies." Mantan Moreland, one of my favorites who can also be seen in Spider Baby, co-stars and is fantastic per usual. May not be for everyone, but I think it's worth a look.
