The Fields: Based on the Extraordinary True Events

The Fields is an upcoming thriller from directors Tom Mattera and Dave Mazzoni. Below is the synopsis from the official press release:
The Fields is a suspense thriller based on the true events that took place in a small Pennsylvania town in the fall of 1973. It tells the story of a young boy and his family who are terrorized by a mysterious presence in the endless fields of corn surrounding their old farm house.

What makes this film stand out to me from other similar films is the origins behind the story. The screenplay was written by writer Harrison Smith. Smith based the script off real events. Events that happened to him when he was a child over a two week period in the fall of 1973.

"I fought attempts to turn this real story into a fictional horror tale," says Smith. "True horror is not blood and gore. It’s about what made us afraid of the dark."

While the incident this is based off was indeed a scary one for Smith, he makes it clear that The Fields is not a horror film, but rather a suspenseful thriller.

"What happened in real life was scary all right, but I can’t say it was a horror tale."

The Fields stars Cloris Leachmen and Tara Reid and is set for an April release. Watch the trailer below. For more information visit The Fields Official Website.
