DVD Review: 'The Cosby Show' Season 1

Today we're bringing you a little something outside of the norm here at Dark of the Matinee. We love Mill Creek, we've made that no secret. This great company constantly releases various packs of horror/exploitation/action flicks and we can't get enough of them. But Mill Creek's catalogue reaches far beyond the genre films and we love those as well!

One of Mill Creek's newest releases is The Cosby Show - Season One on DVD. This box set features all 24 episodes from the debut season of The Cosby Show, in their uncut, broadcast versions. This is the first time ever this episodes are being presented in this fashion. Mill Creek has done a fantastic job. Each episode looks great and it's a real treat to be able to view these as they were originally intended by Cosby and gang.

As for the show itself, that's almost impossible to actually review. Where do you begin with such an iconic show that virtually everyone is already familiar with? What I can say is that 30 years since it's debut and the show still holds up for the most part. There's a few parts here and there that are a little on the cheesy side, but nothing so bad that it takes away from the enjoyment. Every episode is quite funny and filled with heart. There's something about watching The Cosby Show that always leaves me with a warm, happy feeling.

For younger comedy nerds out there, I think owning this is an absolute must. He may not seem like the coolest and hippest guy around, but Bill Cosby is a legend and one of the greatest stand up comedians of all time. This show highlights the brilliant comedic timing the man has.

As far as specifics for Season One go, this is the year that gave us "A Shirt Story" (episode 5). In this episode Denise attempts to make Theo a fancy shirt for a big date and things don't go exactly to plan. This is one of the greatest episodes of any sitcom ever. I could seriously watch it over and over.

Season One also features a handful of guest stars including jazz musician Dizzy Gillespie and a young Alicia Keys. Currently Season One of The Cosby Show is going for about $9.98. Please visit www.MillCreekEnt.com for more info and to purchase your copy today.
